Current Rules and Requirements
RIWA requires all coaches to have a current USA Wrestling leader membership card. In order to obtain a wrestling leader membership card, you will be required to complete SafeSport training, and a biennal background check.
More information on obtaining a wrestling leader card and becoming a coach can be found at the websites below:

Coach Membership Flow Chart
In order to coach at any youth wrestling event sanctioned by the RIWA in RI, all coaches will need to obtain a coaching wristband at each event. There is no cost for a coaches wristband and entry to RIWA sanctioned events for coaches is at no cost, however, you must show you USA wrestling leader membership at the door to obtain this needed wristband.
NO ONE without a coaches wristband will be permitted in the corner to coach. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Proposed Changes
The RIWA is currently evaluating and considering requiring that any person acting as a coach and obtaining a coaches wristband and free entry into RIWA events complete at least the USA Wrestling Copper or Bronze certification.
You cannot take the course on-line without an active coaches membership. More information on obtaining these coaches certifications can be found online at the links provided above.
